When did you start doing CrossFit? Beginning of August 2015. Started Coaching at CFABQ in 2017.
What made you decide to start coaching? When I was in college, I decided I wanted to be a strength & conditioning coach (and a dietitian later). This was after trying to be an Athletic Trainer and finding that was not the career path for me. I wanted to help others succeed in finding their health, wellness, fitness, and a better way of living. I wanted to empower people of all ages to be strong and confident in the gym as well as outside of the gym in their personal lives. I also wanted to help people achieve their athletic goals.
What do you like most about coaching? I love working with coachable people who really want to change, improve, and/or create and accomplish goals in their life. As a coach, I can facilitate these changes for people as long as they are all in and committed. I love the little successes you get to celebrate with people each day as a coach. This could be their first pushup or pull-up; a PR in a lift; making it to the gym that day because life is hectic; less pain because they are doing mobility; and/or progressing forward when recovering from an injury. 1% better every day is all I ask of people I work with and that can be with anything in their life. Better sleep, better eating habits, working on stress management, etc.
What is your favorite thing to coach? I love coaching most movements/exercises. BUT some of my favorites are snatch and clean & jerk. Shocking, I know…
What is your least favorite thing to coach? I don’t have a least favorite thing to coach, but the most challenging thing to coach would be gymnastics movements.
What is your favorite lift? This is a hard one! So many great lifts… I will say back squat because it is such a foundational lift. Second would be deadlift.
What is something most people do not know about you? I have two tattoos that tie into my life and things I have been through; things I value. I also like doing arts & crafts when I feel in the mood to be creative.
What is your favorite thing about the CrossFit community and CFABQ community? They are there for you no matter what. They care. They are true friends. I have gone through so much in life since starting CrossFit and the friends I have made have been an imperative part in my healing.
What are you most excited about in 2019? I am excited to continue being a coach CFABQ. I am also excited to have my dream job and continue as a Strength & Conditioning Coach for the 351st Special Warfare Training Squadron.
