Can you smell it?! The CrossFit Open is in the air… As many of you know, the 2015 CrossFit Open is coming up quickly. This year it will run from February 26, 2015 through March 30, 2015. Registration starts January 15th and runs up until March 2nd (the day scores are due for 15.1).
Registration for the Open is $20 and worth every.single.penny. For those of you that don’t know about the Open, it is a worldwide competition that consists of 5 workouts over 5 weeks. Last year there were over 209,000 participants from all over the world. Each workout will be released on Thursday evening and you have till the following Monday to complete the workout and submit your score by 5pm EST. We will have a set time on Saturdays for everyone to come together and complete each workout. You will be responsible for registering for the Open, inputting your own scores (ON TIME), and giving your best each and every week.
You may be asking yourself: Why should I sign up for the Open?
The Open is what we call “vanilla CrossFit”, meaning that the workouts contain movements that basically everyone can do. Granted, there are times that people have never been able to do certain movements in their day-to-day workouts and end up getting their first toes-to-bar or double unders during the Open. Since there is a scaled division this year, you will most likely see more advanced movements in the Rx Division and the more basic movements in the Scaled Division.
You will be doing harder workouts during the Open and you will be pushing yourself more so than you normally do. But this is a great opportunity to really challenge yourself and do workouts that you typically would not do. You will be competing against hundreds of thousands of people across the world. It is a great way to see the progress you’ve made in CrossFit and come together as a community to cheer on your fellow CrossFitters at CFABQ. This is a really fun and energizing time and it will make you better, not just as CrossFit, but in life. You will learn things about yourself that you never knew, you will push yourself outside of your comfort zone, you will get stronger mentally and physically, and you will have a blast meeting some members you may not usually workout with. The whole point of CrossFit is to drive yourself and this is the perfect way to take it to the next level, even if it is your first competition. In the end it is you against you. Let’s come together as a gym and community and see what we are really capable of!
