As many of you know, The CrossFit Open is right around the corner. It always sneaks up on us as the new year rolls around. This year there are some changes to The Open. As some of you may have heard, there will now be a Scaled Division as well as a new Teenage Division.
The intent of the Scaled Division is to allow all athletes who want to compete, to compete at a level that is appropriate for them. This division is definitely not for anyone who is trying to get to Regionals or the CrossFit Games (sorry Whitney). Having said that, keep in mind that one rep of the prescribed version of a workout will be ranked ahead of the best score of the scaled version of the workout.
When the Open workout is released, athletes can go on the the Games site to see their divisions prescribed version of the workout and the scaled version of the workout.
Just as with any Open workout, the scaled workouts will have specified standards for each movement. These standards must be met and cannot be scaled or modified any further.
The intent of the Teenage Division is for athletes aged 14-17. There will be a separate Overall Leaderboard for the Teenage Division, showing all 14-17 year olds who have not elected to compete with the adult men and women. The Teenage Division will perform a different version of the Open workouts.
One thing to keep in mind is that all athletes aged 14-17 who sign up to compete in the Open will automatically be entered into the Teenage Division. If a teenager WANTS to be in the running for Regionals- as part of a team or as an individual- MUST change their division by emailing support@crossfitgames.com before the end of the score submission for Open Workout 15.1.
